Where have I been?? This article was a great introduction to what must be in store on this blog! I just discovered you when you so graciously visited my turf and I clicked on the link next to your name... My time is very limited but I hope I can find the time to read more!
As a side, I have listened to hundreds of shiurim for RAL, and consider him my Rebbi even though I never met him...
OMG, I'm the exact same I have literally listened to hundreds of his shiurim. I also consider him my Rebbe. BH I'v managed to meet him a few times and I go to his zoom shiurim. He is THE best!
Wow Yaacov. I am in awe of your extraordinary writing talent. Every line is beautiful; you weave words together like a master weaver (is that a thing?)
I love this essay, it’s so true and timeless. We humans just want to feel some semblance of control, and to feel like we have some power in this big, scary world.
I completely agree about the Segulah culture, and it’s an interesting point that believing in nothing is the flip side of this same thing.
Thanks so much again for the kind words. For the core idea here (and many of my others) I really have to give credit to Rav Aahron Lopiansky, who has really opened up worlds for me. If you know anyone else who may enjoy my work don't hesitate to go about sharing it with them!
Amazing piece. Thank you for your work.
Your AI is terrific! What program do you use?
MidJourney
